Below are some frequently asked questions that may be helpful as you prepare for your session.
What kind of photographer are you?
I am a natural light, on location lifestyle photographer with a love of the outdoors. While I have a deep love of black and white imagery, I choose the best approach for my intention so you will see both color and black and white in my portfolio.
Wait, we don't look at the camera?
I love capturing lifestyle photography, which aims to capture people in situations in an artistic manner. My primary goal is to tell stories of love and connection for a family in this moment. Looking at the camera, while it may happen from time to time, is not the goal. The goal is artistic documentation of your family right now. So look at each other, not me.
Where will my session be held?
Your family or maternity session will be held at a mutually agreed upon location. I love to photograph outdoors, but sometimes our Northwest weather makes it difficult. Indoor locations, such as your home, work well too as long as there is natural light available. Newborn sessions are done within your home ideally within the first two weeks of life.
How long will my session be?
Family sessions are from 60 minutes but may go longer depending upon the situation. It’s best to block out two hours on your calendar in case we need it. Newborn sessions are 90 minutes but can go longer depending on the individual baby.
What will my session be like?
I love to have discussions around location, intention and any other questions prior to the photo session so the actual session is free to be casual and laid back. I’ll introduce myself to any little ones and explain my camera. After we have chatted a bit, I’ll start to photograph. I’ll ask questions and the tone will be conversational. Kids usually have a great time playing and I have a great time capturing it.
What should I wear?
In general wear what you are most comfortable in. This isn’t the time to try a brand new outfit or a totally new style. You and your family should feel comfortable and authentic in your clothes. In general, neutrals and small prints are a great idea. Check out my Pinterest board for a few ideas to get you started.
How far out are you booked?
Generally I am booked 2-3 months in advance. If you are interested in a newborn session, please book while you are pregnant to ensure we will be able to capture your little one as early as possible.
How can I order prints and products from you?
I have a variety of a la carte prints and products if you are interested. Feel free to mention what you are looking for and I can steer you in the right direction.
